Words to Live By

Without words the internet would not exist as we know it. Words are what we use to guide us through the search engines in a effort to find the direction we wish to go.

Some signs on the internet superhighway are not as clearly marked. And some micro communities you pass on the way may be too congested to really find what you are looking for.

Imagine, you are in need of the “perfect gift” for a loved one who enjoys fruit. This person has it all, and so you want to arrange the most exotic fruit basket they have ever seen. No one sells this, so it is something you will have assemble yourself. You put together a list and get in your car. Your goal for the day is to find not just some regular fruits from the ordinary store, but some that you have never seen and you don’t really know where you are going to find them.

As you drive through town, it is not obvious where these fruits may be found. There are several possible shops and it will literally take you all day to figure out which ones may have what you’re looking for. Some are owned by foreigners, which makes your search even more difficult. They don’t speak English, so it is not possible to just run in the front door and ask them if they have the “King of Fruits,” because they don’t understand you and you did not know that the real thing you were looking for is also called a Durian. The store has it, and it is hidden in the back, but you have now moved on to the next store in search as you have a large basket to assemble before sundown.

The internet started out like a baby and still has yet to grow into the fully pressed suit. Not every thing is where it should be, and not every thing is easy to find.

Next time you are on that search for what you can’t seem to find, step outside the box and think of other ways it could be described. While still in its infancy, chances are you can find almost anything you are looking for on the internet – when you are equip with the right words.
